Pet parrots need several hours of quality human interaction time everyday. This does not include cage cleaning time or food prep time. Happy parrots want to be with their flock, and that means having quality time with you, several hours a day at different times. This quality time should be done with more than one person, to keep your parrot socialized, and for it to learn to enjoy doing fun things with more than one person. These are some things they will need and enjoy:

Head Scratches & preening their pin feathers... Reading (shredding) the papers with you... Hugs and kisses...

Playing Peekaboo... Tickles... Making music together...

Playing hide-n-seek... Doing chores with you... Just hanging out together...

Other fun things you can do together with your pet parrot include letting them play with a toy while they are standing, or lying on you,

playing ball (Zachary loves catching and throwing a crushed paper ball), and getting involved with their interactive toys. You can see examples of interactive toys in our toys page, and Zachary playing ball in the Exercise page. Get involved with their toys and games, like you would playing with a young child with his/her toys.

Healthy parrots take naps a couple of times a day. Allow your parrot to take naps while hanging out with you; or in this case (right) Zachary fell asleep while getting a foot massage.

Zach also loves taking naps on his Mom's shoulders during the day:

Below is another cute example of how Zachary enjoys getting love, head scratches, massages, human contact, and knowing that he is with his human family:

Zachary getting some TLC from his Mom while lying on her lap, and after awhile he just dozed off...., enjoying the head massage; and stayed that way for almost an hour. His Dad was sitting next to them taking pictures and it didn't bother the little guy at all!
